About Carola

I grew up dancing in the streets, in bars, and in my ever changing living rooms. As long as I was dancing-I felt safe. My moving body is still my sanctuary and my sacred playground.

Living in many different families, changing schools, exposed to such diversity, it was the wild that centered me. For pleasure I’d take long walks discovering wild in urban spaces: wild trees, flowers, people, animals. I trusted the wild more people.

My first experience to ecstatic dance was in downtown Houston. My first dance (see http://dancebodychoir.com/global/blog) (1991) was celebrating the archetype Wild Boy. Since then dance is my spiritual practice. In 1994 I created Body ChoirTM. An ecstatic 2 hour dance open to the community that started in Austin and now is Global.

Since 1994 Body ChoirTM builds community through dance. Body ChoirTM inspired community dance from Austin Texas to San Miguel de Allende Mexico; from the Big Island Hawaii to Seattle Washington.

Now it’s our mission to spread community dance like wildflowers around the globe. By 2012, our mission is for every urban community to have it’s own weekly dance.

Imagine every community has a Sunday dance. No matter where you travel, you can dance with community and feel totally at home!

BODY CHOIRTM emerged from combining my BS degree in Nutrition (BODY), my MA in Psychology (MIND), and training in Ecstatic dance, Contact Improvisation, and Continuum Movement (SOUL). I honor my teachers: Tulsi Saral, Evie Lotze, Gabrielle Roth, Martin Keogh, Bonnie Simoa.

In Ashland Oregon, I unabashedly dance, write and crayon, teach and garden.

I would love to hear from you about my website, about dance, about YOU!
